Bad weather with fog and low clouds prevented dozens of flights from landing at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi for two hours late on Thursday morning.

From 10:46 am to 12:30 pm on Thursday, affacted flights were rerouted to the nearest airports for touchdown, according to Dinh Viet Thang, head of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

The alternative airports included Da Nang International Airport in the namesake central city, Tho Xuan Airport in north-central Thanh Hoa Province, and Cat Bi Airport in northern Hai Phong City.

Although the newly-updraded runway 1B at Noi Bai is designed for landing in bad weather, it has been only available for take-off as a section of 800 meters of it remains incomplete.

Meanwhile, the runway 1A is unequipped for touchdown in such poor weather as Thursday morning.

Therefore, the Hanoi-based airdrome could only handle departures during the aforementioned period of time.

In addition to the rerouted flights, a number of other flights were either delayed or had their departure time adjusted.

It was until after 12:30 pm on the same day that Noi Bai resumed receiving incoming flights as the weather improved.
