The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has approved a plan to offer accommodation and vaccination to foreign residents who have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The committee has requested that lower-level authorities compile information regarding foreigners in their jurisdictions who are currently having trouble affording living expenses and who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19.
The Ho Chi Minh City Command will collaborate with the administrations of Thu Duc City and all districts, as well as other relevant departments and agencies, to rearrange centralized quarantine facilities to provide temporary housing for expats in need.
Interpreters may be assigned to these short-term residences to assist the foreigners during their stay.
The administrations of Thu Duc City and all districts will also draw up plans to inoculate their foreign residents.
The municipal Department of External Relations is responsible for coordinating with consulates general and international organizations in the city to review the number of foreigners who have not been vaccinated and create favorable conditions for those who wish to be immunized.
About 16.3 million vaccine shots have been administered in Vietnam since the country rolled out vaccination on March 8, with over 1.56 million people having been fully vaccinated, according to the Ministry of Health.
The corresponding figures in Ho Chi Minh City are over 4.9 million and 155,719, respectively.
Since the fourth COVID-19 wave began in Vietnam on April 27, the city has accounted for 164,342 out of 308,559 community transmissions in 62 provinces and cities.
