Health ministry logs 173,631 more coronavirus patients in Vietnam

The Ministry of Health recorded 173,631 COVID-19 patients across Vietnam on Friday, along with 39,911 recoveries and 97 virus-related mortalities.

The newest cases, including 19 imported and 173,612 domestic transmissions, were found in all 63 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily update.

Bac Ninh and Quang Ninh Provinces documented 57,974 of the latest local cases, including 48,044 detected on previous days; Hanoi 21,395; Nghe An Province 6,657; Son La Province 4,182; Nam Dinh Province 3,870; Hung Yen Province 3,702; Binh Duong Province 3,201; Ho Chi Minh City 3,070; Bac Giang Province 2,653; Tuyen Quang Province 2,582; Hai Duong Province 2,317; Khanh Hoa Province 2,142; Da Nang Province 1,689; Lam Dong Province 1,088; Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 1,067; Thua Thien-Hue Province 385; and Can Tho City 133.

Vietnam had reported 176,140 locally-transmitted infections on Thursday.

The country has registered 4,051,832 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Upwards of 2.58 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City is on top of the infection count with 545,057 patients, followed by Hanoi with 340,645, Binh Duong Province with 304,810, Bac Ninh Province 128,021, Dong Nai Province with 102,004, Tay Ninh Province with 92,772, Hai Duong Province 92,335, Nghe An Province 76,389, Hai Phong City 74,954, Ca Mau Province 68,021, Binh Phuoc Province 64,406, Da Nang with 62,638, and Can Tho City with 45,635.

Vietnam confirmed only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry announced 39,911 recovered patients on Friday, lifting the national count to 2,589,436.

The toll has climbed to 40,644, with 97 pathogen-linked fatalities added today. 

Vietnam has logged 4,059,262 patients in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered over 196.3 million vaccine doses, including 645,805 shots on Thursday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Over 179.5 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 70,803,561 first shots, 67,534,637 second doses, 14,122,259 additional primary jabs, and 25,610,679 boosters.    

A total of 16,801,103 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,634,244 first doses and 8,166,859 second jabs.
