The Technical Infrastructure Management Center of Ho Chi Minh City, under the municipal Department of Construction, has replaced approximately 650 unsafe or potentially unsafe trees in the city, considering recent mass tree falls due to thunderstorms in Hanoi, said a representative of the center.

During a press conference on Thursday, Le Van Tan, head of the center’s green park department, stated that trees collapsed due to many reasons.

Of which, extreme weather phenomena, such as storms, thunderstorms, and whirlwinds, are a main cause, Tan noted.

To ensure safety of road users and minimize incidents, trees along streets must be regularly taken care of, the official added.

The Technical Infrastructure Management Center of Ho Chi Minh City has trimmed and taken care of trees, thus helping ensure the urban aesthetics and prevent branch falls and tree collapses.

The center has regularly checked trees to promptly detect decayed ones and then eliminated them or their branches at high risk of falling, Tan said.

The rainy season in Ho Chi Minh City normally lasts from May to November every year.
