Vietnam detects 147,358 new COVID-19 cases, including 32,317 in Hanoi

The Ministry of Health confirmed 147,358 coronavirus infections throughout Vietnam on Monday, along with 36,993 recoveries and 78 virus-linked deaths.

The newest cases, including 23 imported and 147,335 domestic transmissions, were detected in all 63 provinces and cities, the health ministry said, elaborating that 90,399 were infected in the community.

Hanoi registered 32,317 of the latest local cases, Nghe An Province 10,153, Bac Ninh Province 7,873, Phu Tho Province 4,326, Hoa Binh Province 3,866, Hai Duong Province 3,799, Binh Duong Province 3,644, Quang Ninh Province 2,915, Bac Giang Province 2,793, Ca Mau Province 2,534, Cao Bang Province 2,225, Ho Chi Minh City 2,120, Binh Phuoc Province 1,924, Da Nang 1,883, Khanh Hoa Province 1,566, Lam Dong Province 1,125, Hai Phong City 947, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 757, Thua Thien-Hue Province 322, and Can Tho City 126.

Vietnam had logged 202,172 locally-transmitted infections on Sunday.

The country has documented 4,574,560 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Above 2.7 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City has been heavily affected with 553,040 patients, followed by Hanoi with 427,553, Binh Duong Province with 315,504, Bac Ninh Province 151,410, Dong Nai Province with 102,455, Hai Duong Province 101,679, Nghe An Province 100,581, Tay Ninh Province with 94,721, Hai Phong City 81,653, Ca Mau Province 74,190, Binh Phuoc Province 70,690, Da Nang with 68,460, and Can Tho City with 46,015.

Vietnam found only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry documented 36,993 recovered patients on Monday, taking the national count to 2,718,440.

The toll has climbed to 40,891, with 78 pathogen-related mortalities added today. 

Vietnam has recorded 4,582,058 patients in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered more than 197.9 million vaccine doses, including 320,789 shots on Sunday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Over 180.8 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 70,860,108 first shots, 67,675,096 second doses, 14,239,065 additional primary jabs, and 26,612,440 boosters.    

A total of 17,022,660 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,743,818 first doses and 8,278,842 second jabs.
