Hundreds of expert ocean lifeguards from around the world gathered in Da Nang to participate in an international rescue competition late last weekend.

Participants from Australia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and various regions of Vietnam, including Hue, Quang Nam, Da Nang, and Nha Trang, demonstrated their lifeguarding abilities at a competition held on April 27.

Events at the competition included swimming, a rescue board relay, and board swimming to save a drowning individual.

There was also a lifeguard triathlon which involved swimming, running, surfing, and a final sprint to the finish line.

The competition served as a platform for teams from different nations to exchange experience, enabling each participant to enhance their rescue abilities.

The Australian team dominated the contest, securing the first place in both the swimming relay and board rescue swimming events.

Nguyen Duc Vu, head of the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches, said that his organization often collaborates with experts from the Australian Professional Ocean Lifeguard Association in organizing training courses, sharing experience, enhancing knowledge, and upgrading professional capabilities for beach lifeguard teams.

The courses also focus on teaching essential skills to prevent drowning incidents, especially among children.

"Lifeguards need professional skills and strength to effectively rescue people in distress," Vu told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

"Through our collaboration with Australian experts, we aim to improve our rescue techniques and ensure the safety of beachgoers," he added.
