A collision between a tender boat and a tourist ship killed one woman at Cua Cai Beach in Lan Ha Bay, Cat Hai District, Vietnam's northern Hai Phong City on Sunday.

A representative of the local Cat Ba border guard station confirmed the deadly seafaring accident on the afternoon of the day.

The Hong Van 89 tourist boat, steered by 38-year-old Nguyen Hoang Tung living in Cat Hai District, was carrying 49 passengers when it crashed into a tender boat, which was used for fetching supplies and equipment and transporting passengers between larger ships in the Cat Ba archipelago, at around 9:15 am.

The tender boat, which was steered by 42-year-old Nguyen Van Lien living in the same district and carrying 12 tourists, went into a blind spot and Tung was unable to notice its presence.

As a result, the tender was rammed, overturned, and quickly sank on the spot.

Passengers on board the Hong Van 89 ship threw lifebuoys into the sea for those in distress.

Rescuers arrived shortly after and managed to take 11 of the 12 tourists ashore.

One of them fainted and was rushed to the hospital.

The rescue force found the body of a female tourist aboard the tender boat at around 12:30 pm the same day.

She was identified to be 56-year-old B.T.N., hailing from northern Hoa Binh Province.

Her body was then taken to the Cat Hai District Medical Center in Hai Phong.

Police are investigating the case.
