A Vietnamese woman has been reunited with her family in north-central Ha Tinh Province after living in China for 26 years.

Nguyen Khac Phong, chairman of the People’s Committee in Thinh Loc Commune, Loc Ha District confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Thursday that a local family had found their lost member – 55-year-old Nguyen Thi Lo – after 26 years.

Lo previously left her hometown in Thinh Loc Commune and arrived in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak.

“She was then brought to China, where she got married and had four children,” chairman Phong elaborated.

Chinese authorities recently discovered that Lo does not have any legitimate personal documents and decided to hand over the woman to their counterparts in Vietnam.

After returning to Vietnam, Lo stayed at a social affairs center in north-central Nghe An.

After her story and photos were shared on social media, Lo’s family members recognized her and were reunited with her on Thursday.

According to Nguyen Duc Dieu, Lo’s brother-in-law, she is the fifth child in a family of nine children.

They lived in a needy household, and their parents passed away a long time ago.

About 26 years ago, Lo went to Dak Lak Province to find a job, but later lost contact with her family, Dieu elaborated.

Family members had reported Lo’s missing, but they were never able to find her.

“Since the reunion, Lo has been crying a lot because she misses her children in China,” Dieu said.

“She also wishes to be able to return to China.”
