Border guard forces in the northern Vietnamese province of Lao Cai arrested three men on Tuesday morning for carrying 22 bricks of heroin and driving their motorbikes into officers on duty in order to escape.
The arrested suspects are 26-year-old Hoang Seo Din, 23-year-old Giang Seo Hoa, and 24-year-old Vang Seo Hong.
Din, Hoa, and Hong were transporting 22 bricks of heroin on three motorbikes when they came across a checkpoint on National Highway 4D in Lao Cai City, the capital of the namesake province, at around 0:30 on the day.
They sped up straight into the checkpoint in an attempt to break through the barrier, but were apprehended.
Officers seized 22 bricks of heroin, three motorbikes, and three cellphones at the scene.
The suspects laters admitted to trafficking the drugs from Sa Pa Town in the same province to Lao Cai City and being paid VND5 million (US$210) for each brick of heroin.
The Narcotics and Crime Prevention Department under the Border Guard Command said the seizure was part of the second phase of a transnational drug trafficking operation.
Functional forces are working to arrest more related suspects and the case is being investigated.
