Police in An Giang, a province in southern Vietnam, said on Sunday that they arrested two men involved in trafficking more than 18 kilograms of drugs from Cambodia to Vietnam while they were on the run.
Dinh Thanh Truc, 32, hailing from south-central Binh Thuan Province, and Thieu Van Lai, 27, a resident of Gia Lai Province in the Central Highlands, are being held for illegal transportation of narcotics.
The arrest was the result of a report made by residents of An Giang’s An Phu District, which borders Cambodia, about suspicious people traveling in a car on National Highway 91C at around 10:00 pm on Friday.

Around 30 minutes later, a task force sent by the Department of Public Security of An Giang discovered the car in question on National Highway 91C and began a chase.
The suspects in the car immediately threw away two bags, which contained 17 yellow and blue packages, and ran away.
At about 11:00 pm on the same day, police officers discovered that Truc and Lai were walking on the same highway and summoned them to the police station.

The duo then admitted to transporting the two bags with 17 packages of narcotics from Cambodia to Vietnam with another person.
They rented a car to carry the amount of drugs out of An Phu but the two were busted before they could leave the district.
Early examination results confirmed that the 17 yellow and blue packages in the two bags are narcotics, weighing a total of 18.6 kilograms.
Police officers are looking for the remaining suspect.
