Nurses and doctors at Khanh Hoa General Hospital in the namesake south-central Vietnamese province rolled out a meaningful program to offer singing performances as well as free haircuts and hair-washing services to patients as a way to spread a spirit of positivity at places that many people see pain and suffering.

The program called 'Sharing Love,' hosted at the hospital on Thursday last week, was aimed at helping patients receiving treatment there find joy and happiness.

Positivity spreads throughout hospital

The initiative featured the participation of hospital medical workers and the support from many philanthropists, said Doan Thi Thuy Loan, head of the social work division at the hospital.

Nurses and doctors joined hands with the band Jamcha, A Tai Barber Shop in Nha Trang City, and Phuc Thien Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company in Ho Chi Minh City to perform songs, offer free haircut and washing services to patients, and present gifts to them.

“We hope that the program will help these patients, who are undergoing an arduous medical treatment course, feel more optimistic and leave their pain behind, while medical workers can forget the pressure to relax and enjoy a joyful moment,” Loan said.

Patients feel better and happier

Nguyen Thanh Long, a patient at the hospital, said that he had been treated at the hospital as his arm was swollen.

He found it difficult to do daily activities after his arm was bandaged. He felt really happy to have his hair cut and styled by dedicated barbers.

Duong Thi Thanh, a 63-year-old female patient at the hospital, said, “Due to my illness that makes me hard to move, nurses often help me shampoo my hair at my bed. However, I feel better today, so I went to the yard to have my hair shampooed.”

After getting their hair cut and washed, patients were also provided with free meals sponsored by charity organizations in Khanh Hoa.

On the occasion of the program, doctors at the hospital gave a combined VND40 million (US$1,700) funded by philanthropists to 80 disadvantaged patients.
