A 48-year-old man set a house on fire with gasoline, killing himself and injuring three others in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam over a love conflict on Sunday.

Police in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai reported on Sunday afternoon that they were coordinating with provincial criminal police officers to investigate the case.

The preliminary investigation showed that Phan Hoang Uy Vu, and D.N.B., a 43-year-old resident in Quyet Thang Ward, Bien Hoa City, were in a relationship.

However, they were recently involved in disputes, so B. wanted to break up with Vu but he disagreed.

At around 1:15 pm on Sunday, Vu bought 10 liters of gasoline and came to B.’s house in Quarter 3, Quyet Thang Ward.

At the time, B. was not at home, so Vu opened the doors and set fire to the house.

Vu later brought the remaining gasoline to a store which B. rented to sell ornamental fish in Quarter 1, Quyet Thang Ward.

B. was not there either but her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchild were there.

Vu poured gasoline to the ground and set the store on fire.

T.V.N., 29, B.’s son-in-law, tried to prevent Vu's act, but it did not work.

The fire spread quickly to items at the store, killing Vu on the spot and seriously injuring the remaining three.
