-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hinted at stronger bilateral partnership between Vietnam and Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei during his meetings with the leaders of these nations on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Indonesia.

Society

-- Police in Tan Binh District in Ho Chi Minh City have cracked down on a massive marijuana growing and consumption ring, arresting three drug traffickers and seizing 40 kilograms of cannabis.

-- Many parts of Vietnam will continue to experience moderate to heavy rains, plus thunderstorms on Thursday, according to the national weather center.

-- Ho Chi Minh City is stepping up action to start work on a dredging and upgrade project for the polluted Xuyen Tam Creek, from Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal to the Vam Thuan River in Binh Thanh District. The project has been abandoned for over 20 years.

-- The Global Fund has provided Vietnam with US$650 million in non-refundable aid to fight HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria over the past 20 years, Vietnamese Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said at the 49th board meeting of the Global Fund in Hanoi on Wednesday.

-- The Vietnamese Ministry of Construction has proposed the prime minister allow Vietnam Cement Industrial Corporation (Vicem) to resume work on a multimillion-dollar high-rise project which has been put on hold for eight years.

Business

-- Vietnam might become Asia’s electronics manufacturing hub, given the presence of some major electronics giants such as Samsung, Apple, LG, and Intel, Darren Seah, director of investment and industrial transformation at Constellar Exhibitions, told an event in Hanoi on Wednesday to introduce Industrial Transformation Asia-Pacific (ITAP) 2023, which is slated for October in Singapore.

-- Vietnam is willing to provide the Philippines with rice in a long-term, strategic, and stable manner at a reasonable price, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told a meeting with the latter’s President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Indonesia on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 42nd ASEAN Summit.
