A delegation from Ho Chi Minh City, led by vice-chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Bui Xuan Cuong, took working trips to Jakarta in Indonesia and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from September 3 to 10 to learn about their experience in public transport and urban railway development.
As part of the visits, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation worked with authorities in Jakarta, public transport management agencies, and Indonesian firms.
The two sides exchanged experience and knowledge about public transport management, e-bus routing, rapid bus and mass rapid transit (MRT) service development.
Ho Chi Minh City and Jakarta have a lot in common with high population density, challenges over traffic congestion, environmental pollution, and impacts from climate change, so the potential for cooperation is huge.
During a working session with Kuala Lumpur officials in Malaysia, the delegation showed interest in Kuala Lumpur’s public transport systems, realizing that Ho Chi Minh City needs new methods to implement infrastructure, metro line, and public transport projects.
Vice-chairman Cuong assigned relevant municipal departments and agencies to promptly summarize the main ideas and lessons on the development and management of public transport and waste treatment after the trips, and put forward effective measures to back Ho Chi Minh City’s growth.
Within the framework of the visits, the delegation attended the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS 2023), which took place in Jakarta on September 3 and 4.
Speaking at the summit on Monday last week, Cuong said that the city always maintains its role in connecting major economic hubs, partaking in supply and production chains, and joining global cooperation activities.
