Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday detained two employees of a forwarding company for their alleged appropriation of assets worth over VND2.3 billion (US$94,709) in total from their company.

The two suspects are Nguyen Van Henh, 27, residing in the city’s District 8, and Lai Chi Thanh, 28, a native of Vinh Long Province, located in southern Vietnam.

A police report shows that Henh was appointed a team leader in charge of the company’s business facility in the outlying district of Binh Chanh, where he was responsible for the import-export of mobile phones and electronic products.

Serving as a delivery consultant, Thanh was tasked with arranging the delivery of mobile phones to customers.

The duo were found to have abused their authority to appropriate a number of mobile phones stored at the Binh Chanh facility.

Henh scanned the barcodes of the phones in order to resell them or ask Thanh to do so.

Thanh also resold or pawned the phones that should have been delivered to customers so as to appropriate the phone sales.

Their malpractices had not been detected by their employer for a long time.
