The People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province in southern Vietnam has written to the prime minister proposing assigning it to develop the Bien Hoa airport project.

The provincial administration said on Saturday that Acting Chairman of Dong Nai Province Vo Tan Duc had sent a dispatch proposing the prime minister appoint the provincial People’s Committee as an authorized agency to implement the airport project.

It is vital to put Bien Hoa Airport into civil service as soon as possible to boost the province’s socioeconomic growth, according to the provincial administration.

As per the government’s Resolution 154 dated November 23, 2022, the Dong Nai Province People’s Committee acts as an authorized agency to carry out the Bien Hoa airbase upgrade project, as part of a plan to use it for both military and civilian purposes.

To smooth the plan and facilitate its steps, the provincial administration hinted at authorizing it to run the Bien Hoa airport project.

In June, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha passed the national airport system development master plan for the 2021-30 period, with a vision until 2050.

Accordingly, Bien Hoa Airbase is listed as a domestic airport that will serve five million passengers a year during the period.

Its annual capacity will increase to 10 million passengers by 2050.
