The sweltering heat is forecast to persist in southeast Vietnam over the next 10 days, the national weather agency said on Sunday.

According to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, the southeastern region is anticipated to witness peak temperatures ranging between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius.

Humidity levels are forecast to drop to as low as 30-50 percent.

The baking hot weather will also affect the Mekong Delta region in southwestern Vietnam where temperatures could stay above 35 degrees Celsius.

It will be extremely hot from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm every day, the center added, warning of an increased risk of fires and explosions in residential areas and forests due to the impact of high temperatures and low humidity.

The extreme weather conditions could potentially lead to heat-related illnesses, including dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, particularly among individuals with prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures.

As for the northern region and central Vietnamese provinces running from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue, rain is expected in several places on Monday and Tuesday, while it may become cooler at night and early in the morning.

The central weather agency noted that the northwestern and north-central regions will likely experience hot weather starting on Tuesday.

The agency underlined the possibility that a cold front will grip northern Vietnamese localities this weekend.
