Nineteen students from a middle school in Vinh Long Province, southern Vietnam were hospitalized on Wednesday after developing symptoms of vomiting and shortness of breath after playing with 'fart bombs' that were made in China.
The education and training division in Long Ho District, Vinh Long Province on Wednesday evening released a report on the case.
At about 3:35 pm on the same day, several sixth-grade students of Loc Hoa Middle School in Long Ho exhibited symptoms of suspected poisoning, such as vomiting and shortness of breath.
The school asked for help from a general hospital in the Hoa Phu Industrial Park region and was advised to transfer the students to the provincial general hospital.
The school later rushed nine students to the Vinh Long General Hospital. Another 10 students with the same symptoms were taken to the hospital at 4:00 pm.
The students were diagnosed as having been poisoned with a banned substance inside the fart bombs.
Twelve out of the 19 students are now in stable health while the seven others need further care.
The school has reported the case to local authorities and assigned teachers and employees to cooperate with parents to care for the students.
