A British young woman fell into a hole where underground cables were installed on Xuan Dieu Street in Tay Ho District, Hanoi and suffered a broken femur while she was walking on the sidewalk in the early hours on Saturday, the district police informed on Sunday.

A team of police officers in Quang An Ward, Tay Ho District detected the woman, who faced the incident at 1:45 am on Saturday.

The victim was conscious at the time and made a sign to show that she had a wound on her right leg.

Police officers saved the woman from the hole which is some two meters deep and took her to the Hanoi French Hospital for treatment.

The woman was later identified to be a British national, born in 1996.

Police in Quang An Ward also asked the unit in charge of the underground cable installation to cover holes and erect warning signs to ensure safety of passers-by.

A leader of the administration of Tay Ho District told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Sunday that the woman suffered a broken thigh bone.
