A halo around the sun appeared in the sky of many localities in northern Vietnam, such as Hai Phong City and Quang Ninh and Thai Binh Provinces, on Tuesday.
The sun was surrounded by a circular rainbow between about 11:00 am and 11:30 am.
Many people have shared images of the phenomenon on social media, believing this was a good omen.

According to scientists, this is a normal natural phenomenon, called a 22° halo.
This is an atmospheric optical phenomenon that consists of a halo with an apparent radius of approximately 22° around the sun or moon. It forms as sunlight or moonlight is refracted by millions of hexagonal ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere.
The phenomenon is more commonly seen around the moon and is rarer surrounding the sun.
