In late May, Hang To, 31, and her fiancé, Chun Chan, 32, visited Nghia Phat Market in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City for a perfect pre-wedding photo shoot.

Nghia Phat Market is a special place for the couple.

Chan grew up near the wet market and Hang used to visit it to buy seafood and vegetables.

In just 30 minutes, the couple managed to move through the market’s alleyways and highlight their love against a backdrop of Vietnamese tradition and southern Vietnamese culture.

Vendors at the market got a kick out of the photo shoot, with many going out of their way to help the couple make sure their shoot could turn out perfect.

Hang hoped that the pre-wedding photos could not only capture their love but also remind younger generations of the excitement of visiting a local wet market with their mothers and grandmothers each morning – a tradition that seems to be dying out due to the popularity of e-commerce platforms.

“We hope to show our future children these simple pre-wedding photos, so they can conjure up how simple life can be,” she said.

Hang To and Chun Chan both work as dancers and met for the first time at an event in 2012.

Three years later, they met by chance once again and began talking regularly. In 2016, they were fully immersed in a romantic relationship.

Hang proposed to her boyfriend at a birthday party in July last year.
