Land subsidence has wreaked havoc on a riverside road in Tien Giang Province, southern Vietnam, with huge cracks measuring over 100 meters long appearing in some sections.
The road was upgraded just one year prior, but the joy local residents had from driving in the newly-paved road was short-lived as massive sections of the street cracked and subsided into the Ong Ve River, located in My Duc Dong Commune of Cai Be District.
During a visit to the cracked riverside road on Thursday, a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporter discovered that the road surface in several sections had subsided by more than one meter, creating serious dangers for commuters.
The subsidence also damaged some parts of Thien Quang Pagoda, which sits along the route.
Phan Thanh Son, vice-chairman of the Cai Be District administration, told Tuoi Tre the same day that he was well aware of the situation.
Relevant agencies will inspect the affected road and carry out remedial work, the official said.
