Authorities of Da Nang City in central Vietnam on Friday evening officially opened Bach Dang pedestrian zone along the iconic Han River.

The pedestrian zone is the city’s new tourism product ahead of the 2024 Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, slated to take place between June 8 and July 13.

The over-one-kilometer-long walking zone runs from the foot of the Dragon Bridge to the Tran Thi Ly Bridge in Hai Chau District.

Speaking at the opening ceremony for the pedestrian zone, chairman of the administration in Hai Chau District Le Tu Gia Thanh hoped the walking zone would provide local residents and tourists with a new space and experiences along the Han River.

The area will be the venue for trade and catering services as well as riverside cultural and artistic activities.

Locals and visitors can leisurely take a stroll on a clean and beautiful road, admire special bridges and modern architectural works while immersing themselves in cultural and artistic programs, the official added.

Da Nang authorities expected the walking street would diversify the city’s night-time tourism products and brighten the space along the Han River.

In the initial period, Bach Dang Walking Street has 12 kiosks on sidewalks and carts and operates between 3:00 pm and 0:00 am every day.

The city will set aside a lane of Bach Dang Street for the pedestrian zone and turn the three remaining lanes into one-way lanes and reduce the speed cap to 40 kilometers per hour from Monday to Thursday every week.

On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the city will ban vehicles from entering the street section from Binh Minh 10 Street to the APEC Park.
