Police in Thu Duc City, a district-level unit under Ho Chi Minh City, caught a 31-year-old South Korean man and his Vietnamese girlfriend red-handed using drugs in a high-end apartment in the city.

Police officers said on Tuesday that they are keeping the man, named Y.C.W., in temporary custody for illegally storing and organizing the use of drugs.

Earlier, authorities in Thu Duc checked apartment buildings in the city and detected the couple using drugs in a Masteri apartment in Thao Dien Ward.

Police seized three plastic bags of drugs and tools for drug use.

There has been a recent trend of groups renting high-end apartments to use drugs or engage in illegal activities, taking advantage of the security provided by apartment buildings, according to Ho Chi Minh City police.

Local authorities will tighten management to promptly detect and prevent these unlawful acts.
