The Southern Intercity Bus Terminal in Da Nang City, central Vietnam, also known as the Duc Long Da Nang Bus Terminal, has sat desolate for years, despite its prime location and a hefty investment.
Spanning 63,120 square meters, the terminal is strategically positioned along National Highway 1 and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Road in Qua Giang 2 Village, Hoa Phuoc Commune, Hoa Vang District.
It was developed by Duc Long Da Nang Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of Duc Long Gia Lai Group, as part of the city’s initiative to encourage private investment in public infrastructure.
With a total investment of over VND130 billion (US$5.27 million), the station was designed to accommodate 800-1,000 buses daily and include modern amenities like waiting areas, ticket counters, a medical clinic, and ample parking.
The first phase, covering over 30,000 square meters and costing more than VND100 billion ($4.05 million), was completed in September 2012.
Yet two years after its opening, no transport companies had registered to operate from the station.
Poorly planned zoning and route designs that diverted buses away from the city center, along with other complications, led to the station’s early demise.
Today, the entrance along National Highway 1 is overgrown with wild grass, and the grounds have become grazing land for cattle.
Inside, the waiting areas remain locked, while dust coats the ticket counters, floors, and seats, with only a few trucks occupying the parking lot.
“It’s been years, and the station feels completely abandoned, despite its prime location on two major roads,” said a nearby resident.
When approached for comment on Monday, an official from Da Nang's Department of Transport advised Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper’s reporter to send inquiries through the department's office.
