A flight of the Russian Ministry of Civil Defense, Emergencies and Disaster Relief delivered 35 metric tons of humanitarian aid to Vietnam on Friday to support recovery efforts in the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, while many other countries and organizations have pledged additional support.

A handover ceremony took place at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, attended by senior officials from Vietnam and Russia.

Among the attendees were Nguyen Van Tien, deputy director of Vietnam’s Disaster and Dyke Management Authority, and I.S. Nesterov, Chargé d’Affaires of Russia in Vietnam.

Nesterov expressed condolences on behalf of the Russian government and people, acknowledging the significant loss of life and destruction caused by Typhoon Yagi, which struck northern Vietnam on September 7.

He emphasized the longstanding tradition of mutual support between Russia and Vietnam, stating, “Our two nations have a history of standing by each other during difficult times.”

“This aid, delivered by the Russian Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies, and Disaster Relief, reflects the deep bond of friendship between our peoples over the past 75 years.”

Nesterov added his hope that the aid will help the victims return to normal life as swiftly as possible.

Vietnamese officials expressed their gratitude for Russia’s timely support, highlighting the importance of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

On Friday, the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam announced a humanitarian assistance package of CA$560,000 (US$412,265) for Vietnamese people affected by severe flooding and landslides in the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi.

Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Shawn Steil highlighted that this support will be directed to domestic and international NGOs, including the Red Cross, to address the most urgent needs.

Canada is closely monitoring the situation and remains ready to support and stand in solidarity with the resilient Vietnamese people.

Earlier on Thursday, charity Oxfam in Vietnam announced a contribution of VND5 billion ($203,211) for relief and recovery efforts following Typhoon Yagi, specifically targeting Lao Cai and Yen Bai Provinces, which suffered the most damage from the floods.

On Wednesday, the European Union (EU) also pledged €650,000 ($726,342) in humanitarian aid to victims of Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam.

According to a statement from the EU Delegation to Vietnam, “this funding will help address the most pressing needs, including food, water, sanitation, and healthcare.”

On the same day, the Irish Embassy in Vietnam announced a grant of €250,000 ($279,362) through UNICEF in response to the severe impact of Typhoon Yagi in northern Vietnam.

This funding will be used to provide clean water and sanitation supplies to ensure the health of children and vulnerable households affected by the disaster.
