Customs officers at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on Friday discovered a foreign passenger arriving from Hong Kong hiding seven pieces of yellow metal which was suspected to be gold bars, weighing some seven kilograms, in his waistband and shoe soles, the General Department of Vietnam Customs reported.
At 9:30 am, officers detected a male passenger concealing metal on his body during the customs clearance process for passengers arriving on a flight from Hong Kong to Noi Bai.
They later coordinated with the division in charge of dealing with economic, corruption, smuggling, and environmental crimes under the Hanoi Department of Public Security and police at Noi Bai International Airport to check the passenger’s luggage and belongings.
The man voluntarily took out seven yellow metal pieces, believed to be gold.
Five of the pieces were concealed around his waistband, while the other two were hidden in the soles of his shoes.
He confessed that he had been hired to transport the gold from Hong Kong to Vietnam and would have been paid 100 Hong Kong dollars (US$12.9) for each piece.
A person would have met him at Noi Bai International Airport to collect the metal.

On October 4, customs officers at the airport detected two foreign passengers hiding metal suspected to be gold totaling six kilograms on their bodies upon entry.
