A video quickly surfaced on social media on Sunday, showing a man brandishing a sword to threaten and verbally assault a female park guard after being told he could not pick flowers in a park in Nha Trang, a popular beach city in south-central Vietnam.
The 30-second clip has sparked outrage among online viewers, with many condemning the violent response as a disrespect for the law.
Many social media users called on local authorities to intervene.
One TikTok user wrote, “I hope local authorities will soon take action to handle the case.”
V.T.T., a 42-year-old resident of Nha Trang City, decried this aggression as a disregard for the law, saying, “Picking flowers in the park is wrong, but then he threatened others with a sword. I hope that local authorities will deal with this situation.”
Nguyen Hung Thanh, general director of Nha Trang Urban Environmental Joint Stock Company, which is responsible for managing the park, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the incident occurred on Saturday.
The man in the video entered the park with the intent to pick flowers, but he was quickly reminded by a female park guard that such action is prohibited in the park, Thanh said.
In response, the man cursed the guard before running to his car to retrieve a sword and continuing to threaten her.
The park guard immediately reported the incident to police officers.
Lưu Thanh Nhan, vice-chairman of the Nha Trang People’s Committee, stated that the municipal administration was aware of the situation and had instructed relevant units to investigate the case.
