Two women working at a 'bánh mì' stand in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam have been commended for their honesty after finding and returning a bag containing VND109 million (US$4,250) in cash to its rightful owner, authorities confirmed on Monday.

Last Saturday, 57-year-old Tran Thanh Thuy, who runs her bread stall in the provincial city of Long Khanh, and her employee, Le Thi Ngoc Thao, also 57, discovered a black plastic bag in front of their shop.

Upon opening the bag, they found stacks of VND500,000 ($20) banknotes totaling VND109 million.

The women immediately reported their discovery to the Xuan An Ward police agency, seeking assistance in locating the rightful owner.

Police investigations identified the owner as D.T.T.T., a 30-year-old resident of Ho Chi Minh City.

T. was contacted and invited to the police station to retrieve her lost money.

Thuy and Thao personally handed over the bag of cash to T. at the Xuan An Ward police headquarters.
