Vietnam to play Iran, China in 2nd round of Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship

Friday, May 22, 2015, 21:28 GMT+7

Vietnam will take on Iran on May 23 and China the following day in the second round of the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in Tianjin, China.

Iran now stands at 101st in the world rankings while the powerhouse China is at third in the table, after the USA and Brazil but above Japan and Italy at the fourth and fifth places respectively.

In the preliminary round in the last three days, Vietnam crushed Mongolia 3-0 and came from behind to defeat Japan 3-2.

The results and the points of the matches between the same teams that were already played in the preliminary round are taken into account for the following round, so Vietnam will not face Japan again though they are in the same Group E as Iran and China in the second round.

Matches in the second round are used to rank the places of the teams to decide on their opponents from Group F in the quarterfinals.

Group F includes Thailand, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, and either Kazakhstan or Australia.

The last eight teams from Group E and Group F will play the quarterfinals on May 26.
