Two Vietnamese have each earned a gold medal at the 2018 FIG World Cup Circuit in Artistic Gymnastics in Slovenia on Sunday, bringing their homeland the greatest-ever success since it joined the international event.

Vietnam’s Le Thanh Tung won the men’s vault goal, while his fellow Dinh Phuong Thanh championed the men’s parallel bars event.

This is the first time Vietnam has snatched two gold medals at the FIG World Cup.

Tung, scoring 14,600 points, surpassed Japan’s silver medalist Sato Takumi and Switzerland’s bronze medalist Gischardben Jamin, who scored 14,475 and 14,325, respectively.

This is the second gold which Tung has got in the FIG World Cup, following the one he received at the same event in 2017 in Qatar, thanks to a jump that gave him 14,733 points.

In the meantime, Thanh brought home the second gold for Vietnam with an excellent performance on the parallel bars.

Thanh was followed by Romania’s Muntean Andrei Vasile, who was awarded silver, and Italy’s Levantesi Matteo, who won bronze.

Vietnam was represented by eight gymnasts at this year’s FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Circuit, which lasted between May 29 and June 3.

The Vietnamese team will begin training for the 2018 Asian Games slated for late August in Indonesia, where Tung and four other members are expected to earn gold medals.
