Vietnam have won the bronze medal at the 2019 AFC Futsal Club Championship after defeating Uzbekistan 6-4 in the third-place playoff.

Vietnam’s Thai Son Nam Futsal Club faced AGMK from Uzbekistan in the third-place game that took place in Thailand on Saturday evening.

AGMK started off strong as they scored the first goal just 15 seconds into the game, before raising the score to 2-0 within the first minute of the match.

Thai Son Nam boosted their offensive formation and narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the fifth minute thanks to a goal scored by Shimizu, a player from Japan.

The offensive strategy, however, exposed the team’s weaknesses, allowing their Uzbekistani opponents to score their third goal in the sixth minute.

The tables were turned on AGMK in the second half as the Vietnamese side netted three consecutive goals in the 22nd, 27th, and 28th minutes, following finishes by Ho Van Y, Minh Tri, and Thai Huy.

The Uzbekistani club evened out 4-4 in the 34th minute following a corner kick.

Shimizu scored a hat-trick, with his second goal in the 37th minute and third in the last seconds of the game.

The play-off concluded with a victory for Thai Son Nam.

The bronze medal is considered a consolation prize for the Vietnamese team as they originally targeted a place in the final, just like they did in the 2018 championship.

The 2019 AFC Futsal Club Championship, an annual international futsal club tournament in Asia organized by the Asian Football Confederation, was held in Bangkok, Thailand from August 7 to 17.

Iran’s Mes Sungun were the defending champions, and were defeated by Nagoya Oceans from Japan in the final.
