Vietnam will face Palestine in an international friendly next month in preparation for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying and 2023 AFC Asian Cup campaigns, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced on its website on Monday.
The Vietnamese national football team, ranked 95th in the FIFA world rankings, will host Palestine, in the 96th position, at Thien Truong Stadium in northern Nam Dinh Province on September 11.
They see this as a valuable opportunity to sharpen their skills, considering Palestine’s comparable global ranking.
Previously, Vietnam emerged victorious in two friendly matches in June, defeating Syria and Hong Kong 1-0 both times.
In anticipation of the game next month, the Vietnamese national football team players are scheduled to regroup at the beginning of the month.
During the second AFC qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expected to be played from November 16 to June 11, 2024, Vietnam were placed in Group F alongside Iraq, the Philippines, and the victors of the match between Indonesia and Brunei.
In the forthcoming final round of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, set to take place from January 12 to February 10, 2024, the Vietnamese team have been assigned to Group D, along with Japan, Indonesia, and Iraq.
