Vietnam ranked 16th in the list of countries with the best architecture in the world, as recently compiled by Insider Monkey, a finance website focusing on financial markets, hedge funds, and trading.
Topping the list is the U.S., which is followed in descending order by Italy, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Spain, Greece, China, India, Brazil, Turkey, and Russia.
With the 16th position, Vietnam placed above Egypt, Israel, Poland, and Serbia.
The ranking was made based on analysis and data released by various reputable websites that cover travel and architecture, according to Insider Monkey.
These included Conde Nast Traveler’s 2017 article ‘The world’s 20 best cities for architecture lovers,’ Travel Channel’s World’s ‘Top architecture cities,’ The Roam Wild’s ‘Top destinations for architecture fans to visit,' Suitcase Magazine’s ‘10 cities for architecture enthusiasts,' and TopTen’s ‘Countries with the best architecture,' among others sources.
Countries were ranked on the number of times their cities were listed in the above sources.
Accordingly, a country received one score for each time it was listed by one of the sources.
In the event of countries having the same score, tiebreaking was done on the basis of which country outranked the other in the sources, the website said.
The U.S., which earned 14 points to become the best architectural country in the world, had the most coverage in the aforementioned sources, including Miami Beach, the Empire State Building, the Gateway Arch, Denver Art Museum, the Hoover Dam, and the Washington Monument.

The French colonial architecture style that is common across Vietnam gained it two points, according to Insider Monkey.
The French architecture is also reflected in the government buildings in Hanoi, including the Presidential Palace, which was completed in 1906, and the Hanoi Opera House, whose construction ended in 1911.
The world has witnessed some astonishing architectural marvels in the 21st century, adding to the architectural richness that still exists from older times and has been well preserved, the website commented.
As a case in point, the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building in Dubai, UAE, is among the finest works of modern architecture in the century, while the Colosseum, the world’s largest amphitheater built between C.E. 70 and 72 in Rome, Italy, still welcomes over six million visitors every year.
Countries can be characterized by many factors, like food, culture, environment, and others, but it is architecture that defines a place in the most distinct manner, Insider Monkey remarked.
The global architectural services market is estimated to earn US$376 this year and is expected to grow 4.8 percent annually to reach $523 billion by 2030, Research and Markets, a global market research store, projected in its recent publication.
