Da Nang, a coastal city in central Vietnam, has been named the most-searched destination by Vietnamese travelers looking to get away for the upcoming National Day holiday, according to Booking.com.
Public workers in Vietnam are entitled to four consecutive days off from September 1 to 4 to celebrate National Day (September 2), as per a circular by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs.
“For the upcoming National Day weekend, we are seeing a surge in demand with Vietnamese travelers exploring staycations and drivecations to nearby places or indulging in short breaks to closer-to-home APAC destinations,” said Varun Grover, country head for Vietnam at Booking.com.
The Booking.com Travel Confidence Index 2023 also showed that Vietnamese travelers have a strong preference for coastal locations, with 61 percent including islands and beaches amongst their primary travel interests, closely followed by cities at 60 percent.
These preferences were reflected in the country’s top 10 domestic destination searches on the travel and accommodation booking platform, with six of the top 10 being coastal destinations.
Specifically, Da Nang claimed the top spot, with Vung Tau City in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and Nha Trang City in south-central Khanh Hoa Province following closely behind.
Da Lat City in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong and Ho Chi Minh City rounded out the top five.
In terms of international travel choices, Vietnamese tourists are predominantly seeking destinations that are relatively close to home, including Bangkok, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
The Booking.com report looked at searches from July 1 to August 14 with check-in dates from September 1 to 4.
