Thu Duc City, an administrative district under Ho Chi Minh City, put Thao Dien Night Street into service on Friday evening for a six-month trial in an attempt to promote its night-time economy.
The 465-meter-long night street spans a section of Xuan Thuy Street in Thao Dien Ward, a major expat enclave as well as a place where a slew of affluent Vietnamese are living.
It opens every Friday and Saturday from 7:00 pm to 2:00 am.
Apart from eateries and stores lining the night street, art performances and music shows will be held there to treat revelers during its trial operation period from January 19 to July 19.
The night street is expected to help promote the local culture, tourism, trade, and satisfy the needs of the locals and visitors for evening entertainment and shopping.
The launch of this night street will give a significant boost to the local night-time economic growth, one of the key strategies adopted by Ho Chi Minh City to develop its tourism industry.

Aside from Thu Duc, multiple districts in the southern metropolis have set up a score of night quarters where local delicacies and culture stole the limelight.
The municipal Department of Tourism suggested that every district consider launching one night-time tourism product to beef up the city’s economy and improve incomes for the locals.
Previously, the administration of District 6 proposed the opening of the Cho Lon Night Street, which would span the sidewalks of four streets, namely Nguyen Huu Thuan, Thap Muoi, Le Tan Ke, and Tran Binh, adjacent to Binh Tay Market.

The Cho Lon Night Market, which is set to open daily from 6:00 pm, would offer local dishes made by the Hoa people, or Vietnamese of Chinese origin, souvenirs, fashion and tech items.
In District 12, the An Suong Night Market began operation in September 2023, housing 190 stalls and offering employment to over 600 people.
Besides, the Ho Thi Ky food street in District 10 was considered a well-performed night-time economy model.
The 300m-long food street has been a favorite spot among both local and foreign foodies.
More night streets will be launched in Ho Chi Minh City in the upcoming time, such as the Trung Son night quarter in the outlying district of Binh Chanh and the Phan Xich Long food street in Phu Nhuan District.
