Tens of thousands of Vietnamese people have placed a deposit for the purchase of new iPhone 14s even though the products have yet to hit the shelves, according to different mobile phone retailers’ statistics.
According to Apple Inc.’s regulations, the iPhone 14s will officially be available for sale in Vietnam from 0:00 on October 14, while authorized resellers in the Southeast Asian country can receive pre-orders from customers from October 7.
Just over a day ever since, many authorized retailers said they had documented a record number of deposits.
FPT Shop and F.Studio, two subsidiaries of Vietnamese telecoms firm FPT Corp, recorded more than 92,000 bookings for the phones. More than 18,800 of the customers have deposited money.
“The speed at which people place bookings and deposits for the purchase of the new iPhone 14s is three times higher than that of iPhone 13s,” said a representative of FPT Shop.
A representative of mobile retailer The Gioi Di Dong (Mobile World) said that its Topzone chain received 6,000 pre-orders after only 30 minutes of opening for deposits.
By noon on Sunday, Topzone gained a total of 28,000 deposits on iPhone 14s.
Up to 10,000 deposits were also paid to CellphoneS, another electronics retailer, after only half an hour.
Previously, the retailer had nearly 45,000 customers reserve their purchases.
The corresponding numbers of reservations and deposits made to other retail chains such as ShopDunk, 24hStore, Di Dong Viet, and Minh Tuan Mobile were also relatively high.
“Minh Tuan Mobile is logging unprecedented records in the number of reservations for iPhone 14s,” said Nguyen Minh Tuan, CEO of Minh Tuan Mobile.
Apple Inc. launched its latest iPhone series on September 7, starting at US$799.
