Nearly 130,000 tourists visited southern Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province on Friday, the first day of the Vietnamese National Day holiday, up over 120 percent year on year, despite unfavorable weather conditions caused by Super Typhoon Saola, the third tropical storm to hit Vietnam this year.
This amount of visitors enabled the coastal province to book more than VND55 billion [US$2.2 million] in tourism revenue, up almost 30 percent versus the year-ago figure, Trinh Hang, director of the provincial Department of Tourism, said the same day.
Several rounds of rain and wind gusts hit coastal areas and beaches in Ba Ria - Vung Tau during Friday due to the impact of Saola, but tourists still opted to spend their holiday in this coastal province, which hosts various events to serve visitors, including kite making and flying, kayak tours, outdoor movie screening, and the ‘Vung Tau Beer Fest’.
Prior to the holiday, local competent forces had intensified patrols over tourism businesses to make sure they offer their services at reasonable prices.
By the end of Friday, the provincial city of Vung Tau’s hotline had yet to receive any complaints about tourism-related price gouging, said Phan Trong Hanh, head of the city’s information and culture division.
