Concerns are rising over the thoughtless actions of locals and tourists visiting a stranded ship in Ninh Thuan Province, south-central Vietnam, with many driving on the nearby seaweed beds for photos.
These inappropriate behaviors may jeopardize the environment and pose risks to the site’s natural beauty and visitors’ safety.
Le Tan Loc, chairman of Phuoc Dinh Commune under Thuan Nam District in the province, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Friday that the commune had submitted an official report to the district administration regarding the issue.
The report highlights the dangerous and disrespectful behaviors of certain individuals who visited the seaweed beds and the stranded ship in the commune.
The commune has instructed relevant units to monitor and prevent unauthorized visits to the sites, Loc said.
Local police, in cooperation with security forces, and officials in Tu Thien and Vinh Truong Villages, have been tasked with enforcing regulations and handling the disrespectful actions and dangerous behaviors near the stranded ship.
In addition, local authorities are calling on both residents and tourists to avoid driving vehicles onto the seaweed beds or climbing onto the ship for photos.
The ship’s deteriorating condition presents a risk of collapse.
The issue gained attention when images circulated on social media a few days ago, showing a group of people driving cars across the seaweed-covered land in the two villages.
These individuals drove their vehicles near the stranded ship for the sole purpose of taking photographs.
Many netizens expressed outrage at the thoughtless actions of these drivers, who they believed were ruining the pristine natural landscape for the sake of social media fame.

One online user voiced his frustration, stating, “Some people are careful enough not to step on the seaweed to preserve the beauty of this spot, while others are driving their cars through it without a second thought.”
Others pointed out the danger posed by the stranded ship, making it hazardous for visitors.
The seaweed field in Tu Thien Village, known for their breathtaking beauty, has become a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
The presence of the stranded Thanh Hung 06 ship has enhanced the allure of the place.
The ship was stranded in 2022 after it lost its rudder while traveling from Dong Nai Province to Khanh Hoa Province.
Despite warning signs posted by local authorities, many continue to disregard safety and environmental concerns by venturing too close to the ship.
