Meeting all three ESG criteria, Masan Group, a leader in the Listed Companies Sector, has been given one of the Top 50 Corporate Sustainability Awards by the Nhip Cau Dau Tu magazine.

Masan Group has consolidated its place in the Top 50 Corporate Sustainability Awards by the Nhip Cau Dau Tu magazine, winning three categories of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and honored as the leading enterprise in the Listed Companies Sector.

The group has consistently been recognized as one of the top 50 sustainable development companies in Vietnam.

This year, the group achieved all three award categories: E - Sustainable Resource Management, S - Human Resources Strategy for Sustainable Development, and G - Excellent Corporate Governance.

This accomplishment highlights Masan Group’s commitment to a comprehensive sustainable development strategy.

"As a leading consumer-retail enterprise serving 100 million Vietnamese consumers and as a trusted partner of suppliers, we see the important role and influence of the group in upgrading the food value chain and contributing to Vietnam's net-zero commitment by 2050,” said Le Ba Nam Anh, head of capital markets & strategic initiatives, member of the ESG Committee of Masan Group.

“These ambitions require a breakthrough in thinking about future business models in which sustainable development is not just about risk management but also an opportunity to make a difference, especially for customers, partners, and the social community.

"Doing Well By Doing Good – Our journey is the consumer’s journey."

Initially established as a spice factory in Ho Chi Minh City, Masan Group has grown into Vietnam's leading consumer-retail enterprise, operating nearly 30 factories and over 3,600 WinMart/WinMart+/WiN retail outlets nationwide.

The WinMart/WinMart+/WiN system has replaced plastic with 100 percent biodegradable bags.

In June 2024, Masan Group topped the Fortune Southeast Asia 500 rankings for the consumer goods and retail sector in Vietnam, with a revenue of US$3.2 billion in 2023.

The group has also excelled in attracting foreign capital, securing a $650-million syndicated loan in 2023 and a $250-million equity investment from Bain Capital in April 2024.

These transactions underscore the trust financial institutions have in Masan's business execution and sustainable development strategies.

Masan Group has integrated ESG principles into its production and business activities, focusing on key areas like sustainable resource management, green growth, and sustainable development.

In 2024, the group continues to align its operations with ESG and climate trends, with a vision toward 2030.

Sustainable resource management practices

Masan Group's commitment to the environment is evident in its investment in advanced, environmentally friendly factories.

The group prioritizes environmental protection measures in planning new projects and ensures that its factories and surrounding areas feature ample green space.

For instance, Masan Consumer’s factories have around 20 percent of their sites planted with trees, while Masan MEATLife’s chilled meat processing complexes boast green spaces covering 24-31 percent of their total area.

To improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, Masan employs several initiatives, such as using rice husks and sawdust for energy production, which is sustainable and supports local job creation.

Masan Consumer has optimized production processes to minimize energy consumption and maximize the use of waste heat.

The company was awarded the ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System Certification in 2023, recognizing its commitment to energy conservation.

Water management is another key aspect of Masan’s operations.

In 2023, the company recorded a total water consumption volume of 123,828 megaliters, an 11-percent reduction from 2022.

Masan Consumer aims to reduce water use by 5-10 percent per production unit by 2025 through enhanced water recycling practices.

All effluents from Masan’s facilities meet Type-A standards, the highest level according to Vietnamese benchmarks, before being discharged into the environment.
