The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security has officially assumed the control of MobiFone Telecommunication Corporation, one of Vietnam’s largest telecommunications companies.
On Friday, the ministry and the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC) held a ceremony in Hanoi to transfer the ownership of MobiFone from CMSC to the ministry.
This transfer, approved by Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc on Thursday, follows a directive from the Politburo aimed at restructuring state-owned enterprises to enhance efficiency, transparency, and national security oversight.
The ministry said that it and MobiFone have been closely coordinating to ensure a smooth transition, preventing financial losses, corruption, or inefficiencies during the process.
Addressing the handover ceremony, CMSC chairman Nguyen Hoang Anh expressed confidence that under the ministry’s leadership, MobiFone would continue to innovate, improve service quality, and contribute to national digital transformation.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Ngoc Lam outlined key tasks for MobiFone's leadership, including organizational stabilization, leveraging the ministry's infrastructure, and exploring synergies between the mobile carrier's capabilities and the ministry's projects.
Lam emphasized the importance of prioritizing customer-centricity, technological innovation, and developing a long-term business strategy.
MobiFone, Vietnam’s first mobile network provider, was founded in 1993 as Vietnam Mobile Services Company.
In December 2014, it was restructured as MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation, under the Ministry of Information and Communications.
In November 2018, MobiFone was transferred to the CMSC, where it became one of Vietnam’s largest telecom operators, holding over 30-percent market share.
Currently, the Ministry of Public Security oversees Global Technology - Telecommunications Corporation, or Gtel, another state-owned telecom provider.
