Honda Vietnam, a subsidiary of Japanese vehicle maker Honda, on Thursday introduced its first electric motorcycles–Honda ICON e: manufactured at its factory in Vinh Phuc Province, northern Vietnam.

The firm will announce the price of the model on April 4 but announced on its official website that ICON e: will be priced below VND29 million (US$1,134) each, with the target customers being mainly high school students.

Honda ICON e: is Honda’s first electric motorcycle assembled and officially sold in Vietnam.

In fact, Honda ICON e: was introduced to Vietnamese consumers earlier, when it was displayed at the 2024 Vietnam Motor Show.

The vehicle has dimensions of 1,796 x 680 x 1,085 mm and a seat height of 742mm, and weighs 89kg. Compared to Honda Vision, ICON e: is more compact and lighter.

Honda ICON e: features full LED headlights and taillights, a monochrome LCD speedometer, a USB charging port, a 26-liter trunk, and a traditional key.

The motorcycle uses a 1.5 kW electric motor, generating a maximum of 2.42 horsepower and 85Nm of torque, with a top speed of 49 kilometers per hour.

These specifications meet the requirements that allow high school and university students to ride the vehicle without a driver's license.

Pursuant to Vietnam’s regulations, riders of electric motorcycles with a power output of no more than 4kW and a maximum speed under 50 kilometers per hour do not need a driver's license.

ICON e: is powered by a 30.6 Ah Lithium-ion battery placed on the footboard, providing a range of 50 km on a full charge and meeting the IP67 water resistance standard.

The charging time is nearly 7.5 hours. There are two charging options: directly through the port on the motorcycle or removing the battery from the motorcycle and charging it.
