The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has written to the municipal Department of Education and Training, the administrations of Thu Duc City and all districts, as well as relevant units, urging them to boost scrutiny of the safety of student pick-up, drop-off, and transport activities.
The transport department proposed the municipal education department and local authorities ask schools to select qualified service suppliers to offer student transport services.
Besides, school bus drivers are required to meet all driving standards and have moral quality and good behavior, as well as obey all traffic safety rules.
Upon signing an agreement to pick up and drop off students, schools and transport service providers must determine the responsibilities for traffic safety, firefighting and prevention, and the well-being of students.
Schools which offer pick-up and drop-off services are required to open training courses on traffic safety for staff and students.
Students should be equipped with knowledge and skills to escape from dangerous situations, including being trapped in a car.
Through these training courses, students can know how to open doors, honk the car horn, use an emergency hammer to break window glass, and send SOS signals with light and sound.
In addition, transport service suppliers are ordered to have school vehicles equipped with surveillance cameras.
Furthermore, the municipal Department of Transport tasked the Ho Chi Minh City Management Center of Public Transport with mapping out a plan to launch regular inspections of student pick-up and drop-off activities in the city to ensure the safety of students.
Also, the center was told to conduct unannounced checks on pick-up and drop-off safety via surveillance cameras installed on school buses.
