Ho Chi Minh City is poised to hold pyrotechnic shows in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Reunification Day on April 30, along with other commemorative and artistic activities.
High-range fireworks displays lasting about 15 minutes each will take place at eight locations from 10:00 pm to 10:15 pm on April 30.
The venues are Bitexco Financial Tower in District 1; Ben Duoc and Nga Ba Giong War Martyr Monuments in Cu Chi and Hoc Mon Districts respectively; Lang Le-Bau Co Relic in Binh Chanh District; Can Gio District’s Football Pitch; Historical, Cultural Park in District 9; Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11; and Go Vap District Flower Village.
About 6,200 soldiers, militiamen, and civilians will take part in a parade and a march that will kick off on Le Duan Street, in front of the Reunification Palace at 7:00 am on April 30, the national committee on the organization of major anniversaries in 2014-2015 said at an international press conference in the city on Monday.
At the same time, a grand meeting will be opened with the participation of about 1,750 people.
These activities will be watched by the country’s top leaders, high-ranking officials of Ho Chi Minh City, international guests, and 100 overseas Vietnamese.
Following the parade and march, a music show will be organized with the performance of over 4,400 artists.
Vietnam was reunified on April 30, 1975 when the U.S.-backed Saigon regime fell.
Local office workers will have a six-day public holiday lasting from April 28 to May 3.
The holiday combines the Hung Kings’ Death Anniversary on April 28; Reunification Day on April 30; and Labor Day on May 1.
