Traffic police in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam have booked two South Korean nationals for riding high-capacity motorcycles on a local road with both hands off the handlebars.

On Sunday, the traffic police discovered a video posted on a Facebook page that featured a group of people riding large-displacement motorcycles in the province, with two men riding and performing the dangerous stunt of letting go of both hands.

A task force was assigned to work with police officers to verify the incident and summon the individuals involved for questioning.

The investigation revealed that R.S.Y., a 43-year-old South Korean, who stays in Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang City, was riding a motorcycle with license plate 43A1-029.20 on Vo Chi Cong Road in Thang Binh District, neighboring Quang Nam Province, at 4:16 pm on Saturday last week.

During the ride, he was seen letting go of both hands.

The motorcycle belonged to N.N.P.T., a resident of Thanh Khe District in Da Nang City, who lent the vehicle to Y. for his journey from Da Nang to Quang Nam on the same day.

At 4:18 pm on the same day on the road, B.D., a 43-year-old South Korean, was observed riding another motorcycle, with license plate 43A1-035.52, with both hands off the handlebars.

H.T.P., who resides in Cam Le District, Da Nang, identified as the owner of this motorcycle, lent it to D. for the trip from Da Nang to Quang Nam.

Based on the evidence collected, traffic police in the province booked the two South Koreans for engaging in the illegal act of riding without hands on the handlebars, as stipulated under Clause 11, Article 7 of Government Decree No. 168.

In addition, all relevant documents and motorcycles were confiscated.

After the video was posted on Facebook showing the foreigners riding large-displacement motorcycles without holding the handlebars, it quickly attracted criticism from the public due to the riders’ dangerous behavior.
