American singer-songwriter Richard Marx will be in Hanoi on Monday to perform at the Christmas Concert 2016 alongside Vietnamese singers.
The Right Here Waiting singer will sing his most popular hits as well as those composed more recently, according to the concert’s director Quoc Trung, who confirmed Marx’s appearance.
This is the first time the 53-year-old singer has agreed to perform in Vietnam.
Richard Marx gained international fame and became a popular idol singer among Vietnamese youths in the 1990s with his hits Right Here Waiting, Now and Forever, Endless Summer Nights, and Hazard.
Though known more for his ballads, many of Marx’s songs feature a classic rock style, such as Don't Mean Nothing, Should've Known Better, Satisfied, and Too Late to Say Goodbye.
His most popular hit song Right Here Waiting has gathered over 100 million views on video sharing site YouTube, while the singer has sold over 30 million records to date.
Marx placed himself in the record books by being the first solo artist to have his first seven singles hit the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
In Monday’s concert, which will be held at the Hanoi Opera House, Marx will take the stage alongside Vietnamese singers Thanh Lam and Tran Thu Ha.
