A festival gathering street performers from across Vietnam closed on Tuesday as top performers were awarded prizes by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, the event’s organizer.

Recipients of top prizes ranged from a rock band, a dance crew, a magician, a martial artist and a man who pumps bicycle tires and shoots milk out of his eyes.

The award ceremony was held at Tuoi Tre headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday morning, after the finalists had rocked Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1 the night before at the festival’s final show.

The festival was initiated a year earlier by Tuoi Tre and Sen Vang (Golden Lotus) Company, with over 200 video submissions received by the organizers followed by a voting process that selected the 16 top performances to be featured in Monday’s finale.

Three second prizes, two third prizes and five consolation prizes were awarded to the ten top performances, with no first prize given out on Tuesday morning.

A special prize for the most unique performance went to Nguyen Van Xuan, who used his eyes to pump up a flat bicycle tire, and to shoot out milk.

The youngest finalist, six-year-old Nguyen Tuan Thanh, was also honored with a special prize for his magic show that included turning fire into a rabbit and swallowing a balloon.

The prize for style went to Le Xuan Tung, who drew Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelagoes by using powdered wheat and fire.

Three Audience Choice prizes were awarded to a singer, a duet couple, and a Mekong Delta man who transformed coconut water into soft drinks.
