A group of artists will introduce more than 70 artworks to viewers and painting enthusiasts in Hanoi at an exhibition later this month, in celebration of the upcoming Lunar New Year festival, which is due in February.
The annual exhibition by G39, a group of artists from the famed Bat Trang pottery village in the Vietnamese capital city, now in its fifth year, will be organized in the first-floor exhibition hall of Hang Da Galleria on Hang Da Street, Hoan Kiem District, from January 20 to February 1.
Inspired by 12 Vietnamese zodiac signs, this year’s exhibit will be themed “Hoi Dome 2019,” with “Hoi” meaning “Pig” in Vietnamese, as the Lunar New Year 2019 ushers in the Year of the Pig.
“Hoi Dome 2019” will display over 70 paintings on such different materials as oil paint, lacquer, and acrylic.

The painters used a lot of warm and brilliant colors to convey prosperity and fullness from the image of the pig, according to Le Thiet Cuong, a painter of G39 and curator of the exhibition.
The exhibition is meant to not only maintain the annual drawing activity that the artist group G39 initiated and to celebrate the Lunar New Year festival, a beautiful national culture of Vietnam, but to also bring art closer to the public, Cuong said.
The event will spare some space to introduce paintings about the Year of the Pig created by children.
In addition, “Hoi Dome 2019” will feature porcelain statues and dishes from Bat Trang Village.
Visitors to the exhibition can also enjoy performances by the rock band G39 while watching the artists drawing the paintings for invited guests.
