Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong chaired a meeting with key officials in Hanoi on Tuesday, making his first appearance since taking some time off work due to health issues in April.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, chairwoman of the lawmaking National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and two other high-ranking Party officials were among the participants in the five-people meeting, according to the official Vietnam News Agency.
The meeting heard and discussed a report on official work in April and issues needing attention in the time ahead.
The officials at the meeting reached high consensus on key tasks in May and the following months.
In the immediate future, priority should be given to organizing the 10th plenum of the 12th Party Central Committee as well as meetings of the Politburo and the Party Central Committee Secretariat.
Party leader and State President Nguyen Phu Trong instructed that the fight against corruption and “negative phenomena" be continued “with resolve and persistence” while upholding the spirit of solidarity and unity at all levels and in all sectors and winning public consensus.

Last month, foreign ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang told reporters “a heavy workload and extreme weather” had affected the health of the Vietnamese head of state, addressing rumor that he had health issues after a working trip to the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang in mid-April.
President Trong was in Kien Giang on April 13-14 to discuss the implementation of socio-economic, security, and national defense initiatives with local officials.
“He will return to normal work soon,” Hang said at the same meeting.
