Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen received a high-ranking delegation from Cuba led by Roberto Morales Ojeda, Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of Cuba’s Communist Party Central Committee, on Monday.
Speaking at the meeting with the Ho Chi Minh City Party chief, Ojeda said that Cuba and Vietnam, especially Ho Chi Minh City, could strengthen their bilateral cooperation in various fields.
Apart from health, education, sports, and tourism, Cuba takes special interest in agriculture.
The top Cuban official expected the two countries’ partnership to help Cuba diversify its farming products and enrich food supplies in order not to rely on some markets.
The high-ranking delegation of Cuba visited two business models in the southern metropolis a day earlier.
The Cuban representative lauded the efficiency of these models.
“When visiting a Co.op Mart supermarket in the city, we saw 95 percent of the goods there were Vietnamese products. Our country is striving to reach this model,” said Ojeda.
Many enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City have been making investments in Cuba. Therefore, the two nations have multiple opportunities to deepen trade and commercial cooperation, moving toward producing more mutual benefits, according to Ojeda.

Ojeda’s visit was aimed at marking the 50th anniversary of late Cuban leader Fidel Castro Ruz’s first visit to Vietnam and to the liberated zone in South Vietnam in wartime and the 60th anniversary of Cuba’s establishment of the Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam.
At the reception, the two top officials affirmed that Vietnam and Cuba are proud of their 60-year friendship.
The relationship between Vietnam and Cuba over the six decades is special, intimate, long-standing, and healthy.
The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, on behalf of the Party Committee, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, and residents, expressed gratitude to Cuba for its support during the hardship of the wartime revolution.
He also affirmed that Vietnam and Cuba would always join hands to develop the two nations.
Ho Chi Minh City will relentlessly promote trade and investment activities to contribute to boosting the bilateral partnership, Ho Chi Minh City Party chief Nen underlined.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, Ho Chi Minh City’s public healthcare system was weakened, so the city will greet a delegation of Cuban experts and seek their suggestions to address this problem in the coming months.
Ojeda expressed his belief that Cuba will always receive support from Vietnam.
